Mobile Automatic Roadblock System wins Intertraffic Innovation Award

April 4, 2006

For the NMA company (Nederlandse Machinefabriek Alkmaar), Spark worked together with Niema to design a new concept for a vehicle for placing and removing roadblocks.

With this mobile roadblock system, the vehicle driver can place an “Andreasmat” (rubber warning strip) and a so called “Action Skid” (non-movable frame with luminous arrow) on the roadway in very limited time and without the need of having people out on the road itself.

Among other things, Spark was responsible for the styling of the M.A.R.S.® concept, gave recommendations concerning the functional concept and invented solutions for introducing crumple zones in the Action Skids.

The M.A.R.S.® (Mobile Automatic Roadblock System) was presented to the market at the Intertraffic Amsterdam 2006 exhibition. An international jury proclaimed the roadblock system the winner of the Intertraffic Innovation Award in the category Infrastructure and Safety.
