A rapid, successful upgrade for Cassini

Shortly after the success of the EasyScan eye scanner, producer i-Optics came to use for an improved design for their Cassini: a pioneering diagnostic tool that can accurately map deformations of the cornea. The objective was to further develop the existing design and bring it in line with that of the EasyScan.

Smart choices

The challenge was great. Too big not to grab it with both hands. Spark partner Michel van Schie explains: “The design had to be affordable enough to produce in small series. So, for the plastic parts and the structural sheet metal parts we make use of silicone moulds and vacuum casting. Although this makes production per dozen possible, you still run into other limitations. Despite this, it succeeded. By making smart choices we have given the Cassini the design that does justice to its high-quality functionality with relatively few resources and in a short period of time.”
