What challenges did Sustainder face as a startup?
“As a startup, we entered a market dominated by established players, which made it difficult to gain traction. What helped us stand out was our unique cassette system. Entering the market came with its fair share of hurdles, even though Spark gave our fixtures a strong and recognizable design.
Working with municipalities also brought challenges. Public tender processes take along time and require a lot of effort and patience. Plus, we had to convince them of the added value of our modular system. When we started seven or eight years ago, the market mainly focused on basic lighting. Things like sound monitoring weren’t really on the radar yet. The only expectation was that alight should work, and that was it.”
What have been the highlights over the past few years?
“We’re proud to have delivered 100,000 lighting fixtures so far. Besides the Netherlands, we’re now also active in other European countries, including Germany and the Czech Republic. We’ve also developed and launched three different types of street lighting fixtures.”
