Nout Merkus (25) is pursuing a master’s degree in Integrated Product Design at TU Delft and has been an intern at Spark since mid-November. After a previous internship at a large manufacturing company, he was looking for a design agency with a strong technical focus. At Spark, he found an environment where ideas are not only conceived but also actually built and tested. And where he can be involved in multiple projects at the same time. He finds it especially motivating that he can contribute to medical projects, which aligns well with his Medisign specialisation within the programme.
Nout’s work ranges from market research and patent research to concept development, material research, design and the elaboration of large 3D models in SolidWorks and KeyShot. In particular, translating concepts into technical realisation closely matches his interests and skills.
Nout experiences the atmosphere at Spark as warm, creative and challenging. He is given a great deal of freedom and responsibility and feels that his contributions are taken seriously. The diversity of assignments and the opportunity to further develop his design and technical skills make the internship very valuable to him. According to Nout, Spark is a rewarding and educational place where you can truly grow as a designer.
