Agile as a driving force
From the beginning, we embraced Agile principles to realize this challenging task:
Short design cycles with stakeholder involvement: We continuously involved key stakeholders and opinion leaders such as nephrology professors, specialized nurses, and technical staff from university hospitals in the design process. This has led to insights that user-friendliness and reliability of disposable installations are crucial for the effectiveness of treatment in the ICU.
Focus on ease of use and uptime: Instead of marginal improvements to the therapy itself, we focused on ease of use, installation speed, and the lifespan of disposables. This can significantly increase the treatment's uptime, providing direct benefits for the patients.
Iterative testing and application: We quickly created and tested prototypes, ranging from VR simulations to functional test systems. This allowed us to quickly discover what worked and what didn’t, and where to focus our efforts.
