Anne-Wil, Cas and Femke: Spark's newest interns

Innovation only gains value when an idea is translated into a product that holds up in a complex market. At Spark, interns are fully involved in this process. Anne-Wil, Cas and Femke are currently part of our team and experience what it takes to make designs work as a whole, from creating the right user experience and strong aesthetics to ensuring technical feasibility and scalability.

From concept to realisation

For Cas and Femke, both studying Integrated Product Design at TUDelft, choosing Spark for their internship was a deliberate step towards more depth. At university, projects often stop at an initial concept, but here they see the full cycle.

"At university, it often stops at the idea," says Femke. At Spark, she experiences how a design goes beyond the first phase and requires continuous iteration and development to achieve a result that truly works.

Cas adds that he is learning how to operate within a professional structure: "I wanted to experience what it’s like to be involved in a project from start to finish, including working with clients and seeing it through to realisation."

Impact in a medical context

With her background in Technical Medicine, Anne-Wil brings a specific perspective to our medical projects. She explores how new technology is implemented within the regulated environment of a hospital.

"I use my knowledge of the healthcare system to understand how a design impacts daily practice," she explains. Her focus on testing and validation is essential for identifying risks at an early stage.

Room for initiative

The interns work on a wide range of challenges that directly contribute to our client projects.

Cas contributes to acquisition trajectories by visualising possibilities for new propositions through free-form design.

Femke works in the workshop on physical prototypes and 3D models in SolidWorks, testing designs in practice.

Anne-Wil applies her clinical knowledge, bridging the gap between technology and the day-to-day reality of the end user.

At Spark, they are trusted to make independent decisions and to experiment with materials and techniques. In doing so, they are not only building products, but also developing the skills needed for professional product development within complex organisations.
