INTERSCHUTZ: where engineering, design and user research come together.

Sparkers Diederik and Ruud recently visited INTERSCHUTZ in Hanover, the main event for anyone who wants to stay ahead of developments in rescue services and safety. Given our experience designing professional tools for brands like Holmatro, it was an obvious place for us to be.

What stands out at INTERSCHUTZ is how products are put to the test in real-life demonstrations. The demonstrations make one thing clear: performance means little if a tool isn't intuitive in the moments that matter most. For a firefighter rescuing someone from a vehicle, every second counts. Tools need to be intuitive, reliable and fit clearly into the way people work. This is where technology and design meet. And where meaningful innovation happens.

Beyond the importance of integrated design, a few other trends caught our attention.

  • The innovative carrying handle we developed for the Holmatro Pentheon tools is now appearing across the market. A clear sign that true innovations don't go unnoticed.
  • AI is becoming part of everyday operations. Smart technologies are adding new layers of traceability and insight, helping professionals better manage equipment and workflows.
  • Autonomous systems are also gaining ground. From machines that detect fire hotspots and can respond by extinguishing them.
  • A big shift is the move from incident response to prevention. More organisations are looking at the bigger system, focusing on anticipating risks instead of simply reacting to them.

INTERSCHUTZ showed that the future of safety isn't driven by technology alone. It's shaped where engineering, design, user research and technology come together.
