100 visitors to Spark during the World Port Days

Visitors to the World Port Days in Rotterdam last weekend (7 and 8 September) were able to take a tour through the Merwe-Vierhavens area, organised by Stadshavens. They were able to experience just how lively, creative and innovative this part of Rotterdam is. The 100 enthusiastic participants visited, among others, the Spark studio in the historic Departures Hall building (De Vertrekhal).

After a brief outline of the history of the inspiring building and how Spark ended up there, they were given an explanation of the innovations and products developed by Spark. Sparkers Jurgen, Diederik and Maarten gave them interesting background stories about the development of, among others, the PAL-V flying car, the shower chair for Invacare and Lopital, the Babboe cargo bike, the Carver and the ING ATM front. But the Sparkers were also told some great stories in return. Jurgen: ‘There were older members of the group who had lived in the neighbourhood and had even worked in this building, and the kids thought the flying car was totally crazy!”

The World Harbour days show how versatile and fascinating the Rotterdam ports are and they give visitors the opportunity to take a look at the interesting companies that are in the Docklands.
