New colleague Floor Beeftink

Floor did an internship at Spark, graduated with an ambitious project at Philips, and then then came back to Spark as an Industrial Design Engineer. “The atmosphere andthe kind of people who work at Spark really appeal to me. In addition to work, everyone has a passion, is busy with all kinds of activities, and inspires each other. That is also one of the reasons why I came back to Spark.”

Socially responsible

Floor’s project at Philips involved Circular and Eco-design: the redesign of a product so that the impact during and at the end of its life is reduced. “It was a really interesting project because it was not just about the product itself, but also about the business model, the service, and the logistics around it. Together, these factors can provide a truly sustainable solution that is more beneficial for the environment, the business, and the user. As a result of this project, I know better how you weigh the possibilities against each other and I automatically think about the sustainable aspects of a project now. Ultimately, as a designer, you have the responsibility to bring socially responsible products into the world.”

Permanently curious

“I like variety in my work and that’s why I did my internship with Spark. It’s brilliant to work on multiple projects at the same time; for example, thinking about the technology for one, and the styling of a product for another. What also appeals to me in this work is the lifelong learning and the discovering how a product or mechanism actually works. This is part of inventing and solving puzzles to achieve a product. Being a designer is more than just a profession, it’s the essence of who you are: solution-oriented and permanently curious.”

Now, there’s a great motto!
