Spark keynote speaker at ‘Nederland innoveert’

The first ever ‘Nederland innoveert’ (Netherlands innovates) took place at the Evoluon in Eindhoven on 1 and 2 February. The national technology event for engineers showcases top Dutch projects and aims to inspire (prospective) technicians by showing them the opportunities, challenges and social relevance that ‘dream’ technology jobs have to offer. Spark Director Robert Barnhoorn was asked to be one of the keynote speakers given Spark’s role in imaginative projects such as the ground-breaking flying car PAL-V and the tilting three-wheeled vehicle Carver One.

The event was widely announced on the Discovery Channel along with the chance to win a journey into space and so, of course, Wubbo Ockels could not be missed at this inspirational event.

500 enthusiastic visitors
In his inspiring story, Robert Barnhoorn told the approximately 500 visitors that dream projects such as the PAL-V don’t come out of thin air. Instead, it is a logical consequence of more than 18 year’s work on the (concept) development of the ground-breaking hybrid vehicle. He explained that knowledge gained on one project is re-used in subsequent projects, and told of Spark’s most spectacular highpoint (to date), the maiden test flight of the PAL-V that made worldwide news. It goes without saying that the PAL-V elicited many enthusiastic reactions at ‘Nederland innoveert’ as well.

Robert Barnhoorn looks back on a wonderful event: ‘Brilliantly organised and the audience was really great!’. The event was characterised by speed, energy and variety. Characteristics that were embodied by the chairman for the day Jan Douwe Kroeske (known from programmes such as Jules Unlimited), who passed on his knowledge of innovation and enthusiasm for technology effortlessly to the audience. As a result of its success, the second edition of ‘Nederland innoveert’ will take place in 2014.
