Visitors to Spark cannot fail to see it: the mock-up of the VertiGO, the superfast accelerating, electrically-powered racing motorbike. The VertiGO was designer Maarten Timmer's graduation project at the Delft University of Technology (TU Delft). He recently parked the full-size prototype in the atrium at Spark.
The VertiGO promises superfast acceleration without choking fumes and noise pollution. This is essential for the TT-circuit in Assen, where regulations limit the number ‘noise days'.
The VertiGO is avant-garde. An electric power drive is fundamentally different from a fuel-driven engine and tank. As a result, the motorbike also looks radically distinct from conventional bikes. Timmer has paved the way for a new archetype.
