The new Kalfire E-series

Electric plug and play fireplace

After the holographic fireplaces from Kalfire, we helped Kalfire design and develop an electric, plug and play fireplace: the new E-series. Although the basis for this project lies within the holographic fireplaces we designed with Kalfire, the E-series fulfils completely different needs and fits a different market segment. With a much lower cost price than the holographic eOne, the E-series are ready to take on the competition with any electric fireplace.

The E-series have been designed as a consumer-product, focusing on easy installation to create a true B2C solution. Without holographic projection, the emphasis had to be on the interior elements and the logs. This resulted in a clean and beautiful product, ready to brighten up any room.

Design challenges

The key design challenge in creating the E-series was to create something beautifully blended with any interior and minimize the use of materials while still delivering a convincing fire experience. How did we make a convincing fire with less materials, while also making the fireplace easy to install? We solved this puzzle by analysing the market and prototyping and researching numerous possibilities and collaboratively with the expertise of Kalfire identified opportunities to continue with.

Realistic fire experience

For example, we did research different ways to mimic fire, we tried to create wonderful glow-effects and used both simple and advanced technology to create a mesmerizing effect. In this process,  we discovered that realistic wooden logs made a big impact on the fire experience. So we implemented different glowing effects into the wood logs and looked at different finishes, making them as realistic as possible.
